The design of this alterations and additions project was shaped by a challenging site: a south-facing block with a flooding overlay. The existing house at the front of the property was retained and reworked to include three bedrooms, a bathroom and an ensuite.
A new addition sits at the rear to capture the northern sun and open onto a lush central garden with a swimming pool. The link between old and new houses the new entry and a study, and is imagined as a planted bridge with hanging gardens that form a green backdrop to both the pool and the garden.
Considered level changes allow for a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, while complying with the flooding overlay.

“My design brief to Denisse was to create a north facing pavilion to house new combined living areas within a south facing, flood prone site. She nailed the brief with a design that not only makes the most of natural light but connects indoor, outdoor and garden areas seamlessly, which is a hard feat given the flood restrictions. She listened to all my wants and delivered a design that is unique to me and to the site where it sits. The design process was really fun and the DA got approved with no changes to the design. I am in the middle of building my house and already love how the spaces feel. I would highly recommend Denisse if you are looking at designing your new home.” - Josh Clark
